Is in-home ABA a good fit?

In-home ABA is often a great option when challenges show up most at home and you want support right where daily life happens: mealtimes, bedtime, homework, transitions and getting out the door. Is your child struggling with any of the following?

  • Tantrums, aggression, or frequent meltdowns at home
  • Difficulty with transitions (turning off screens, bath time, leaving the house)
  • Safety concerns (elopement/running away, unsafe climbing, etc.)
  • Daily living skills (toileting, dressing, hygiene, mealtime routines)
  • Communication needs (requesting, following directions, reducing frustration)

What in-home sessions look like

We don't do "one-size-fits-all." We start by understanding what your child needs and what your home routines actually look like. Sessions can include skill-building, behavior support and coaching so the plan works when we're not there.

Our focus is practical progress: helping your child succeed during real moments like morning routines, mealtime, play, homework, bedtime and family outings.

How to get started

  1. Book an appointment so we can learn about your child and your goals.
  2. Insurance & paperwork (if applicable) to confirm benefits and next steps. See insurance.
  3. Assessment and planning to identify priorities and build a clear treatment plan.
  4. Therapy begins with consistent sessions and measurable goals.
  5. Ongoing parent coaching so progress continues between sessions and over time.
  6. Study our behavior help blog for practical ideas and strategies, as well as theories to think about.

Parent coaching is part of real progress

Parents and caregivers are the most important part of success at home. We teach practical strategies you can actually use, so you're not guessing in the hardest moments. The goal is less stress, more consistency and skills that last.

Frequently asked questions

Please reach us at info@thrivebehavioraltherapy.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

What is in-home ABA therapy?

In-home ABA therapy provides behavior support and skill-building in your child's natural environment, your home, so strategies fit real routines like mornings, meals, play, homework and bedtime.

What happens during an in-home ABA session?

Sessions may include teaching new skills, reducing challenging behaviors, practicing communication and daily living skills, and coaching caregivers so progress continues between sessions.

Do parents need to be home during sessions?

For legal and safety purposes, a caregiver is expected to be present in the home. Another important benefit is that it gives parents and other caregivers a chance to learn the strategies so they can stay consistent when the therapist isn't present.

How many hours per week does my child need?

It depends on your child's needs, goals and availability. The number of hours at home also depends on whether your child is receiving ABA services in school. Hours can be increased if necessary or decreased when less intensive intervention is needed. Recommendations are based upon ongoing assessment of your child's progress.

Can in-home ABA help with tantrums, aggression, and safety behaviors?

Yes, in-home ABA often targets real-life challenges like tantrums, aggression, refusal, transitions, bedtime routines, and safety concerns (like running away or self-injury) by teaching replacement skills and consistent responses. To learn more, see our Behavior Help page.

How long does it take to see results?

Every child is different. Many families notice small wins early (like smoother routines or fewer escalations), and bigger changes build with consistency over time. Progress depends first and foremost on the child as an individual, as well as goals, intensity and follow-through at home.

Is in-home ABA covered by insurance?

Yes, though coverage varies by plan. We accept many commercial insurance plans that cover ABA services, such as Florida Blue, Aetna and Tricare. Benefits and authorization requirements may differ from plan to plan. Contact us to better understand the next step.

What ages do you work with?

We support children and young adults across a range of ages and tailor goals to the child's developmental level, family priorities and daily routines.
